# Cucuteni Eneolithic Art Museum 'Gheorghe Dumitroaia'

The most important collection of Eneolithic art in Eastern Europe: pots painted with red, white and black spirals and human figurines of the Cucuteni civilisation (c. 5000–3500 BC), housed in a neo-Romanian former bank in the old centre of Piatra Neamț.

The museum opened on 24 June 2005 and is devoted entirely to Cucuteni art: the decorative art of richly painted vessels and the figurative art of human and animal figurines.

The building was designed by architect Roger Bolomey and built in 1927–1928 for the Petrodava Bank. It stands within the Princely Court, next to the Church of St John and the bell tower raised by Stephen the Great.

The same building houses the International Research Centre for the Cucuteni Culture, founded in 1995, which coordinates excavations and research on this civilisation.
